6th Entry -> Traditional Malay Costumes...

Female Attire...

For the female, the Pahang traditional Malay costume and dress is the Baju Kurung, both of the Cekak Musang and Teluk Belanga styles.
It is therefore also loose fitting, and the long blouse with long sleeves is worn with a matching sarong. The sarong is normally of batik,
tenun Pahang Diraja or songket, but other fabrics and designs are also frequently used.
As Malays are predominantly Muslims, the head of the female is usually covered with a "selendang", "cindai", or "kelubung" - a piece of cloth or sarong to cover the head and neck.
Another Pahang traditional costume or dress for the Malay lady, besides the Baju Kurung, is the Baju Kebaya. There are variations to this dress. But this costume is more "modern" and is more body hugging and worn either short - up to the waist - or longer down above the knee. And it is worn or complemented with a sarong, usually of batik or songket, although other fabrics with plain and colorful designs are also popular.
But the distinctive Pahang Malay traditional costume or dress for the women is the Baju Riau-Pahang, sometimes called Baju Turki. This is a long gown styled dress, cut at the front with 7 or more buttons and worn with a sarong.

Male Attire...

In general, the male Malays basically wear traditional costume that is known simply as "Baju Kurung", or loosely translated as "Enclosed Dress".
Although "Baju Kurung" is the name for the attire for both male and female, in ordinary language, the female dress is referred to as "Baju Kurung", while the male dress is referred to as "Baju Melayu".
Two versions of the
Baju Melayu styles are popular and commonly worn in Pahang and Malaysia.
One is the Baju Kurung Teluk Belanga and the other is the Baju Kurung Cekak Musang.
The main difference between this two fashion styles is the cutting style at the neck, where the Teluk Belanga style has no collar and the neckline is stitched in the style known as "tulang belut" ("eel's spines or bones").
The Baju Kurung Teluk Belanga originated, as its name implies, from Teluk Belanga, in the island of Singapore, which was previously the capital of the state of Johor.
On the other hand the Cekak Musang style has a standing collar with holes for five buttons including two buttons for the collar.
The Cekak Musang shirt also normally has three pockets – two at the bottom, and one at the upper left breast. The Teluk Belanga shirt normally has only two pockets both at the bottom.
The Baju Melayu is a loosely fitting shirt with long sleeves, worn with long pants with a "sampin" or "samping" which is wrapped around the middle of the body from the stomach to the knee and sometimes lower. This
sampin is usually a three-quarter length or full sarong-style cloth made of kain songket, tenun Pahang Diraja or other woven materials with traditional patterns.

5th Entry-> 1 unique thing about Kampong Glam...
The unique thing about Kampong Glam is that.. Kampong Glam is named after Gelam trees planted in the area...

4th Entry-> 2 Things We learnt About Kampong Glam

1.We learnt that Kampong Glam was named after the Gelam tree which used to grow in the area, Kampong Glam was the historic seat of Malay royalty in Singapore. Today, the former Istana Kampong Glam (Sultan’s palace) has been converted into a heritage museum, the Malay Heritage Center
, to showcase the rich history and culture of Singapore’s Malay community.

2.
Built in the year 1928, it is the biggest mosque of the island of Singapore and it can hold at a particular time about 5,000 people. The striking feature of this mosque is the golden dome. This mosque truly highlights the architecture of the Muslim community or it could be said that it speaks volumes about the creative bent of the Muslim architectures, who left no stones unturned to create this stunning piece of architecture. When we went there..The tour guide instructed us to look up at the golden dome.. Me and my group members saw glass bottles on it.. You may be thinking.. what are the glass bottles for? Let me reveal the story behind it.. My assistance, Krisfidiar heard the story that the tour guide told her.. She says that the story is very heart-warming..The story's summary is like this.. the rich donated from their gold stashes to the building of the mosque, the poorer folks raised funds by collecting and selling used glass bottles. Look up at this ring of bottles today, and you are reminded of the humble folks who gave generously out of their poverty.

These are some of the things we learnt and of course remembered.. Hope you like it... || V ||

2nd Entry-> Where Are The Places We Visited At Kampong Glam..My group and I went to the Sultan Mosque located at Arab Street. The tour guide took us inside the mosque as we had to answer questions in our worksheets. We also learnt that this majestic building was bulit in honour of Sultan Hussein of Singapore. It replaced an older mosque with a tiered roof. Some of Sultan Hussien's relatives were buried under the prayer hall.

This is the main prayer hall of the Sultan Mosque. We learnt that we must take off our shoes and put them on the shoe rack outside the mosque, We also learnt that if a malay person were to make a prayer, He will have to clean himself using the taps at the courtyards before entering the prayer hall and he will have to face the South-East direction when he prays.

This is the Istana Kampong Glam located Sultan Gate. This street is named Sultan Gate because it leads to an istana at the end of the road. A high brick wall surrounds the Istana Kampong Glam. At the entrance of Sultan Gate, there was a small house called the Pondok Jawa on the left side of the road.
